There seems to be a mighty backlash against Peter Kay; people say his comedy is 'simple,' easy, etc and now people are beginning to rail against the rehashing of the same content ( see reviews on link [associates] above).
All that being said, when I saw Peter Kay at the Hammersmith Apollo I laughed my heart out. I’ve had genuine fits of giggles at Phoenix Nights ( not just Peter Kay obv. ) and Max and Paddy. Soapstar Superstar On Ice was mediocre but still raised a smile.
I knew this latest release was old material – he hasn’t gigged since the Mum wants a Bungalow tour so how could it be new material? – so I didn’t buy it…. No doubt people did and they were disappointed. Why would a populist entertainer risk pissing people off by putting out old product?
I bet you there’s a massive rush to buy tickets for the next tour though, and I’ll be at the front of the queue.
